Description
Meet your guide, Brother Tomasz, a robed, slightly eccentric medieval monk, at the Golden Gate. Set off on a humorous and surprisingly insightful journey through Gdańsk’s Old and Main Town.
Follow your guide through Gdańsk’s most iconic sights, including Długa Street and Długi Targ. Hear stories of merchants, wealth, and old gossip. See the medieval Crane by the Motława River and listen to tales of port life and trading glory.
Continue to the area around the Market Hall and learn what locals used to eat, sell, and argue about centuries ago. Visit (from the outside) St. Catherine’s Church, where the monk reveals secrets of giant bells and stargazing monks, and (also inside if needed) St. Bridget’s Church, where the story shifts into modern times with tales of resistance and solidarity.
Next, stop at the Polish Post Office monument, where the first shots of WWII were fired. Finally, head to the Gdańsk Shipyard Gate, birthplace of the Solidarity movement. End the walk with a powerful view on recent history and how this city helped change the fate of Europe.
