The area is confused with the nearby Main Town, where most of Gdańsk's monuments are located. The Old Town has a service and residential character. The astronomer Jan Heweliusz lived and worked in the Old Town. In 1959, in ul. Garncarska club 'Rudy Kot', the first rock and roll concert in Poland took place.
